trying to set up a new computer to dual boot xppro32bit & vista64bit.

i got xppro on there but have been having trbl with vista 64bit, disk
corruption issues, unable to windows update, etc.

my 1st 2 attempts were a c primary for xp & a d primary for vista right
next to it with 3 logical data parttions after that (wd caviar 640 gb
disk).

now i'm thinking put the vista towards the end of the disk after the
data partitions (separate it from xp) but am also wondering if i should
use a logical partition instead of a primary for it.

any thoughts on this layout & logical vs primary for vista 64 bit?

I'm not positive about vista but my old machine has win nt & win 2k both
installed on logical partitions.

The boot loader should be in a primary partition marked
active, but for any flavor of Windows, the OS itself can
be installed in a logical partition. This normally occurs
in multiboot situations with a single partitioned drive.
