These "symptoms" seem to indicate a more "complex" problems than just
with the monitor. Take it to a repair centre if you are not
comfortable in looking diagnosing the more complete cause.

What happens if you prepare a memtest floppy diskette on another
computer, then bring the floppy over and try booting the affected
computer with it ? Does memtest run for more than 15 seconds,
without the monitor shutting off ?

http://www.memtest.org/

(This will format a blank floppy diskette, and leave a bootable
copy of memtest on it.)

http://www.memtest.org/download/4.00/memtest86+-4.00.floppy.zip

The purpose of running this test, is to see if it is your OS image
that is the problem, or it is a hardware problem. If memtest won't run,
then it could be CPU, memory, motherboard, power supply, video card etc.

If the computer will run properly for a long period of time with
that test running, then boot into Windows again using Safe Mode.
Press F8 early in startup, and see if the machine behaves better
in some form of Safe Mode.

"When you switch on your system, look for the first screen appearing
showing your memory and hardware information, then start pressing
Key 'F8'. Continuously tapping the F8 key until you see the menu list
show on the monitor. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some
computers will display a "keyboard error" message. If this happens,
restart the computer and try again."

Paul
