May i install 64-bit vista, using my 32-bit key?

NO.

If you had a Retail Vista 32bit disk, MS would send you a 64bit version for
the postage cost.

But, you have cheaper OEM supplied by the computer manufacturer.
You have 2 choices:

1. Buy a 64bit version licence from shop and/or online.
2. Contact manufacturer re cheaper 64bit version.

I believe the OEM Keys (or the licence keys) in general are linked to a
specific architecture and flavour so No, I think you can't. However, if
you are requesting a change of architecture on same falvour of Vista..
you should be able to contact microsoft or your OEM to get a replacement
key... although this will give you two operative systems.. ya? AKA as
you can see... I don't think they will allow it;.

eg. When I downloaded both 32 and 64 bit W7, I got two different
licence keys.

Your best bet I think is to contact your OEM.

Cheers for the reply mate. Yeah, i tried the online thing to switch to
64bit and it said " error, there is no offer£ or something. The OEM is
me haha, i bought the OEM edition becuase it's half the price of the
retail one when i built my system. :huh:
I guess i'll email m$ and see what they say.

No I'm afraid you can't.

Hi lakmilis and Leetmu,

You will find the product keys do not differentiate between bit
versions.

32 bit product keys can be used to activate 64bit versions of 7 and
vice - versa.

As far as I know , that is also the case with Vista.

I assume you mean you have the bought, system builder dvd with product
key, and not an oem "recovery" disc.

There is one way to find out - install the 64bit version to a different
partition and see if it activates.
