Hi All,

My XP is installed on F: drive, after installing vista on G: drive the
xp can't boot and the error message is "ntldr missing". I have changed
the boot drive of XP to F: in boot manager using EasyBCD but still
getting the error. Although uninstalling boot manager will recover XP
boot menu.

TIA

Timmy

Are you running everything with NTFS. If so, Vista will corrupt XP once you
boot in Vista. Two ways to avoid this issues:

1. Load the Windows XP on FAT32. Sounds weird but Vista won't touch it if
it's on FAT32.
2. Learn how to hide the inactive OS while the other is running. Lots of
different ways to do this. You need a program that allows this.

Vista will not corrupt XP, however booting into XP will corrupt Vista's
restore points.

Also, go into your bios, look at hard disc boot priority, make sure the
drive XP is on, is selected first in the boot priority.

Copy boot.ini, ntldr, and ntdetect.com to the root of the Vista
boot drive, then edit boot.ini to reflect where the XP partition
resides. A better multiboot utility for Vista is Vistabootpro.
Vista will not damage an XP installation. The only negative
interraction is that XP will delete Vista restore points, which
is an XP issue, not a Vista one.

My error.
I had thought that Vista corrupts XP restore points... but I got it
backwards.
Thanks

How did you install Vista? Did you install from within XP? Did you
disconnect drives? If Vista shows itself as G from the Vista OS, you must
have installed from XP, as it is always C if installed from the DVD.
Startup repair using the DVD should correct the BCD. Make sure you still
have the startup files on one of your drives. You need ntldr, ntdetect.com
and a bootini file. If they are all on one of the drives you either have
the boot.ini file pointing to the wrong partition or you have the BCD
pointing to the wrong drive. You can play with the various drive letters
using EasyBCD until you find the correct one for your setup. You can also
copy the 3 files to the drive with the BCD on it and change the boot.ini
file as necessary. Good luck

No, it won't.

Strange that this only happens when your XP file type is NTFS. If XP is on
FAT32, it will not corrupt the Vista Restore Points. I tested this out
myself.
