Probably because the paragraphs inside the table have left and/or right indents
that make the text area in each cell very narrow. Check on the ruler or in the
Format > Paragraph dialog and make sure the indents are set to zero.
If you mean the text is sideways, use the Format > Text Direction command to
return it to normal -- but that's rather improbable.
