Please help?!?!
Windows XP Pro SP3 - Windows will display the splash screen at startup but
will not boot to the logon screen. All I get is a blank screen. I have to
do a reset or hard boot where I can boot up in safe mode with networking. I
found numerous items in the event viewer. In fact I am in safe mode now.
It appears that DCOM may be the main cause, but I don't know.

Some of the items are as follows:

DCOM got error "This service cannot be started in Safe Mode " attempting to
start the service wuauserv with arguments "" in order to run the server:

{E60687F7-01A1-40AA-86AC-DB1CBF673334}

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

Fips

intelppm

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal
processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from line 44 of
d:\comxp_sp3\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

Since you can start in Safe mode, you might want to use "msconfig" to
help narrow down what might be causing your problems...

"How to troubleshoot configuration errors by using the System
Configuration utility in Windows XP"

Follow John's advice. Safe Mode boot indicates a driver problem generally
detected via msconfig.
