Since I formatted (one or two will remember me having had to do this) I
now notice that I have no Windows.old folder, is this normal? I used to
get it but since formatting and installing Vista due to my previous
installation troubles it has not shown itself.......I thought it should
have been there, but no.

I must admit that I always disliked it being there, and had in the past
(year or so) tried my hardest to remove it, so in away I am glad I can't
see it, but part of me is also confused as to why its not on my system
anymore

Hi Jekyll & hyde,

nothing to worry about if you did anything other than an Upgrade
Install.
the windows.old folder is the place where vista stores old documents
and config files etc if you upgrade your system from within an existing
system such as XP. A fresh install does not create it.

Hi Barman,

I did'nt upgrade my install, all I did was stick my Vista disk in chose
install, got to a screen that had my HD on and then chose format and
finally installed it.....good to know that its not a problem, I don't
think I could go through another install if it had been an issue, I
still have'nt got everything installed yet, a long and boring procedure,
still it has to be done eh :D

Thanks mate

You formatted the disk and erased everything on it.

When you format you erase the contents from the drive so, when you
re-install, you do not see the windows.old folder. You only see the
windows.old folder if you install over the top of an existing copy of Vista.
You have nothing to worry about this is perfectly normal behaviour.
