Hi. I would like to know if anyone knows where the actual information that
displays the users name at the top of the Start Menu dialog Box is stored.

From the user name that is logged on. Why do you ask?

The name in the start menu is spelled incorrectly. The name that is displayed
is my full name with middle initial, but the username is just my first name -
so I don't think the displayed name in the start menu window is taken from
the username. By the way, I am connected to a domain and i already tried
changing the username in Active Directroy which did not change it iether.
That is why I believe that it is stored somewhere on the local machine.

Look in the "Documents and Settings" folder and the name that is stored
there is what shows up. Later changing the user name won't change this.
Only creating a brand new user will it change.

Just a guess, but is it using the "Registered Owner" registry entry located
here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

The date and time was Tuesday, January 13, 2009 7:31:02 AM, and on a
whim, HGRinOH pounded out on the keyboard:

If you're logging into a domain, it should contain the exact same info
as the User info on the domain states.

Do you possibly have a local profile you're loading?

You could always log in as an Administrator, remove the incorrectly
named user profile on the workstation (after making sure your data is
backed up, even on the Desktop), log in anew and it should be corrected.

You can rename it this way:

1. Open "User Accounts" from the Start Menu Control Panel.

2. Choose an account.

3. Click "Change my name".
