Windows XP Build #/Service Pack number notification

On one of my XP machines, I ran some program that added text just above the
System Tray that says, "Windows XP Professional" and below that in a much
smaller font the Build number and Service Pack currently installed.

Does anyone know what this program was. I would like to have the same
information displayed on my other machine/

You can just edit the PaintDesktopVersion registry value for this:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\DesktopPaintDesktopVersion

Set value data to 1 to enable, set to 0 to disable.

PaintDesktopVersion: Core Services

You need to logoff and log back on to apply the setting.
