System reboots for no reason

While heat, as others have suggested is a possible cause, you could also
have a failing power supply, or possibly failing capacitors on the
mother board. If the problem is worse when you are using the computer
heavily use a program like Speedfan to monitor the temperatures and
voltages to see if anything is going out of normal. If it reboots while
idle it could be a capacitor on the motherboard failing. To spot these
look for leaking or distorted parts on the mother board.

While all the replies so far are good suggestions, are you sure the
system is spontaneously rebooting or is the system expericncing a "blue
screen" and automatically restarting itself. That *is* the default
behavior of Windows XP.

Right click My Computer, Click the Advanced tab. Under Startup &
Recovery, click Settings. In the System Failure section see if
Automatically Restart is checked. If it is, uncheck it.

Now use the computer for a while. If the system is indeed "blue
screening" it will halt with the blue screen of death visible. You can
then investigate the specific Stop error code and information to work with.

Overheating of the CPU due to too much dust in the cooling fans can
indeed cause the problems you are having, but there could be other
problems as well. Until you force the system to *not* automatically
reboot on a System Failure you reall can't know for sure.
