At the moment we use Ghost to deploy the image, we do use sysprep to make
the image as well. We have had this problem for about 2 years now, we
thought it had gone last year but it has come back again.

We are also connected to a domain on all PC's as well, we did try to have a
policy to block it, but this has now been turned off as System Restore isnt
used

Ill have a look at that file, I havent looked at that file yet

What firewall is being used?

Hi

At the moment we have XP SP3 (Although it did it when we were on SP2 last
year as well)

We have a corporate Firewall on the network only, we dont have a firewall on
the PC's themselves

Have you considered the Ghost Image you deployed is borked? The reason
I say this is because you have the same problem on many systems that
was used by your Ghost image.

Anyways, try to repair System Restore on a test PC to if the problem is
corrected.

Navigate to %windir%/INF and right-click "sr.inf" to select Install.

This should repair System Restore. If the Test PC proves to be
successful after a few days of testing then you may want to run a logon
script to repair System Restore for all other machines on your network
that are affected.

I thought your problem was one generated by certain versions of Zone Alarm.
How frequently are restore points being created?

I would reinstall System Restore. Use Ghost to backup. Do not use any
earlier images to restore the computer.

In future before backing up I would carry out this procedure first.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to Empty
your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also select Start, All
Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp, More Options, System
Restore and remove all but the latest System Restore point. Run Disk
Defragmenter.

Thanks for the info on this, ill try this

Im not sure how reguarlly it does this, if you look at the system restore it
doesnt seem to appear there as it is turned off.

We have also just put a policy out to make sure that this is set to 0 to see
if this would make any difference as well.
