Post subject: PowerPoint Presentations Will Not Open at All Archived from groups: microsoft>public>powerpoint (more info?)
|

I have some PowerPoints on chapters in a textbook that we are using for
school. My teacher sent them to me via e-mail. I was able to open the first
seven without any problems. I went to open the next seven, and each one gives
the same error message: "PowerPoint can't read the outline from (insert file
name). No text converter is installed for this type." This error message
comes up in both PowerPoint 2007 and PowerPoint 2003. The file format is for
PowerPoint 2003.
What is causing the files to not open? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Have you got all the updates installed for both versions of office? You
mention 2003 & 2007 - do you have both full versions installed?
I found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924074 - perhaps installing
the latest version of the comp pack will help.

I'm having the same problem but I already have the newest version of
PowerPoint 2007 installed.
My problem is opening an attachment to an email that I believe was made with
an older version and the new 2007 won't open it.

Hmmm. Is Windows updated too? And are you sure it is a ppt/pps? Not say a
pdf? My only other thought is that it is corrupt:

If you want to send me one I'll see if I can do anything with it.

Windows is indeed updated. I tried converting the file to a PDF using an
online conversion tool, but it came back that the file was corrupt.
