Post subject: Pendrive read-only - how to format? Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

Yes, a pendrive (FAT32) shows in Disk Manager as Removable storage device -
read-only.
Others work fine, so it's something wrong with that drive.
How can I unlock it? It may be due to some virus, all files are readable,
but the unit is write-protected!...
What is it due to? (I have tried with linux live cd, same behavior)

Ask the manufacturer of the drive.

FLASH memory devices have a limited life. One of the many failure modes
causes the memory to become read only. Some of the cheaper pendrives
utilise reject memory chips. >> Stay informed about: Pendrive read-only - how to format? |

lost recycle bin icon - This will sound strange, but you don't know my father-in-law. He says his recycle bin icon disappeared and he can't find his recycle bin any more. We had him delete a file and then search for it and his recycle bin does exist, the icon has just.. |
