Movie Maker preview shows solid green screen

Copied here because someone suggested I had it in the wrong newsgroup ...

Using Vista Ultimate SP1. I add a same video to the timeline but
when I try to play it in the preview, all I get is a solid green frame. I
can hear the sound playing and can split the video at random but can't see
anything. Any ideas on what to try?

Someone suggested I update the video drivers. I was skeptical because of the
age of the video card in this system. I tried it and it fixed the problem.
