I am running Windows XP sp3

I have just spent a couple of days installing a wireless broadband router
after my original hub died.

After getting everything working (or so I thought) I noticed that the normal
notification sounds weren't sounding off.

I've tried changing my theme back to the windows default, the icons and wall
paper etc. all change over but still no sound even for the default windows
settings.

I've played the sounds individually by double clicking on them and they
sound off ok.

I've run direct x checker and that's ok

Skype (including the start-up whoosh noise) works ok

I can play radio stations over explorer.

Any thoughts please on where I can start looking?

Problem solved.

After running a query in Google I found a thread about my problem in
Software Tips and Tricks.

Basically my loading the new hardware changed the second of the registry
keys mentioned.

Setting back to default cured the problem.
