Migrating win xp installation in other platform

Thanks.
My boards supports up to the latest version of Pentium 4, but Socket 478
only.
Does your answer mean I could upgrade also (apart from the
RAM/Motherboard upgrade and host driver adaptation issues) to Core 2 Duo ?

If windows xp installation is so cpu-generation tolerant,
would be a change to AMD or another platform also so straight forward ?
Once again, apart from questions of RAM/Motherboard upgrade
and adaptations of host controller driver.

You can only put a Socket 478 processor on the board, but that doesn't
mean that all Socket 478 processors are compatible with your board, you
will have to consult your motherboard specifications for the processor
support information. A hardware group is better suited for these kinds
of questions.

For Windows XP, a processor upgrade is really no big deal, it will see
the new processor and it will automatically do whatever it needs to do,
if it even needs to do anything.

If you change from Intel to AMD, then your chipset drivers will also need
changing, at least

The chipset drivers would come with the new motherboard that he will
need to run the AMD processor... I don't think he wants to move
Windows to new hardware.

Now my m-board can be purchased as second-hand only.
Within the next 5 years no platform changes (OS and/or hardware) neither
are planned nor will be made for this machine.
Thus if this board should undergo an damage, within about next 5 years,
a repair on replacement base is possible only.

Therefore I'm investigating now what replacement/hw-upgrade
possibilities do I will have in a damage situation without having
to do the machine new installation (OS+applications+personalizations).
The simplest one is to buy identical board. However I can imagine
that won't be simple to find identical board exactly in the time
my is damaged. My recent experience has showed that.

I will prepare this machine for all possible and acceptable (from the
point of view of necessary efforts) replacements options in order
to have this machine working again after a short time
if a board damage should happen somewhen in the future.
