I can't insert symbols using the ALT+ keystroke. I have Office XP, Microsoft
Wireless Keyboard 7000. I used to be able to hit ALT+0233 and get a small
"e" with a French accent. No longer. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you have NumLock on and are using the numbers on the numeric
keypad? FWIW, there are two other ways to insert
é in Word: type 00E9 and press Alt+X or type Ctrl+', e.
