Post subject: Importing Thunderbird contacts into Windows Vista Contacts
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>general (more info?)

I am having problems importing contacts into Vista Contacts.

I tried 2 things :

1/ LDIF
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format.
I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts
The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error
in the contacts, and it stays stuck

2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file
I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the
mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of ","
- all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares

Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In
these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by
symbols.

I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.

Any solution to this import problem?
Thanks

Why would you direct the OP to an "alt" newsgroup when there are Official
Mozilla Forums AND newsgroups?

But "alt" groups are NOTORIOUS for being places where there is
disinformation and all sorts of rubbish.
There MAY be helpful people there, but I re-iterate, there are OFFICIAL
Mozilla forums and newsgroups where the REALLY knowledgeable people hang
out.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yet, why would this be a problem with
mozilla? To me, it seems that this is a problem with Windows Contacts
which cannot correstly import extended characters, or?
I did check the export file from Thunderbird: all the accents are in
place, properly. The "squares" only appear later during the Windows
Contacts import process. Has anyone succeeded in importing correctly
contacts with extended characters in Windows Contacts?
Alternatively, would you know of a way to transform contacts in a CSV
file into a VCARD file?
