Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>perform_maintain (more info?)

I have windows xp.

I try to do a windows update and get "The site cannot continue because one
or more of these Windows services is not runningError number: 0x8DDD0018" . I
follow the directions given;

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type services.msc and then click OK.
3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click
Properties.
4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.

But when i click on apply, i get "access denied" but it lets me do changes
to the (BITS) and Event Log

I have run windows defender, a vundo fix, SUPERANTI spyware, malwarebytes,
one care, and registry fixed at least i think i did the registry fix right....

And still nothing! I can not update SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!
