Post subject: Change file folder view in Open Documents
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>docmanagement (more info?)

When opening a saved document, my Word and Excel files used to be organized
with folders first and then files alphabetically. Something happened (not
sure what) and now my files are sorted by most recent files and then folders.
I don't like this as I have so many files and need to have them sorted
alphabetically.

Does anyone know how I can go about changing this back????? It happened
once before and a co-worker helped me change it. That was a long time ago
and he no longer works here. I don't know what he did to change it back.

Thanks!!

Switch to Details view if needed and click on the Name header.

Thanks!! Crazy that the only "type" of list that has headers is the detail
list. Good to know that it can be changed there! Life is back to normal now
and I am feeling good!

Thanks again!!

And of course once you've changed the order, you can switch back to
whichever view you prefer. You can also change the sort order by
right-clicking in an empty area of the window and choosing Arrange Icons By
> Name, but if they're already sorted in *reverse* alphabetical order, this
won't help (clicking twice on the Name header reverses the sort).

I wish I could help, but I am having exactly the same problem. I didn't see
where anyone responded to your plea. But, I would like to have an answer to
the same question.

Right-clicking in an empty space and choosing arrange by "name" will take it
back to alpha. order. Thank you Suzanne
