and gets stuck on the black screen just after the loading bar loading
bar, just before the welcome screen.it happens randomly when i restart or
turn on my pc.have been waiting for a long time between
(10min-2hours),but it won`t go on further.. when i restart again and
load vista by last known good configuration it works fine

Hi Paul--

If the bar isn't showing up your kernel isn't loading. And it seems like
your bootloader is damaged.

Try these, and if startup repair won't fix you, then the option to use the
command prompt from startup repair and run the bootrec switches should. If
you don't have a Vista DVD, I provided a link below to make a startup repair
disk by burning the .iso: Make sure you try them all in the order provided,
if you need to.

Download Vista Repair Disk

How to Use Startup Repair from the Vista DVD or the Repair Disk you make:

1) First try 3 options from Startup Repair. If you have a Vista DVD then
restart with it in the drive>press any key to boot from it and run Startup
Repair. From Startup Repair you have 3 good tools with an excellent chance
of fixing your system. If you don't have a Vista DVD from which to boot to
Startup Repair, no problem, Download the .iso from the link below and
burn it, and you'll have the Microsoft Vista Repair Disk with Startup
Repair.

Download Vista Repair Disk

2) If Startup Repair does not get your Vista back, then use the 3 bootrec
commands from the command prompt available on the Statup Repair Menu:

The menu I refer to is in this set of directions with a grey background.

http://vistahomepremium.windowsreinstall.com/repairstartup/repairstartup.htm

Those are:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuild BCD

3) If my second option doesn't work, then try System restore from the
Startup Repair list.

1) First try 3 options from Startup Repair. If you have a Vista DVD then
restart with it in the drive>press any key to boot from it and run Startup
Repair. From Startup Repair you have 3 good tools with an excellent chance

bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuild BCD

3) If my second option doesn't work, then try System restore from theStartup
Repair list.

4) If by rare chance you have an actual Vista DVD, you can put it in, boot
from it>choose the Upgrade Option>choose your current broken Vista Drive and
try to do a repair install with the Vista DVD.

5) If the above 3 tools don't work, then use the 4 tools available by
restarting your pc and tapping F8 once per second to get to the Windows
Advanced Options Menu.

From this menu click on 3 Safe Mode links to use System Restore. Make sure
you try all 3 if one doesn't work, because just one of them may work. Tap F8
to Reach Windows Advanced Options Menu Pictured Below:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command: At the prompt you would type the command to use for
system restore at the safe mode cmd prompt is:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

If these 3 tools don't work, you have one more you can try which is Last
Known Good Configuration.

Good luck,

CH

Hi free2paul--

I understand exactly what's happening to you, but it does not change my
advice except for this. You have a very nice gaming box btw. Open up that
tower. Try to eliminate that you have hardware problems. Clean it. Check
the fans. Check the memory sticks and make sure they are in correctly. Check
the seating of your vid and sound cards.

Your problem could be hdw. So open that baby. Make sure it's clean--blow
out any dust and you may do this regularly. I'm not preaching. Check that
the video, the sound card--(you seem to be a gamer so see that they are
securely seated), and check for your manufacturer's latest bios update. Ck.
temp, check the fan, check if you've put any other hdw in lately. Since you
can use LKG to get up to Windows, check device manager and make sure their
aren't any bangs on devices although we all know dev mgr will tell you a
driver is healthy even if it is corrupted and MSFT is not fixing that in
Windows 7 or probably ever from what they tell me.

Do all my steps if your hdw is fine.

Good luck, and let us know.

CH

The 'sometimes' part means you've got something that's acting up. My guess
would be the hard drive. Get the manufacturer's diagnostic boot CD and test
it (using a non-destructive test, of course).

Also, try booting without ANY external devices attached. Unplug any USB or
other cables besides the mouse, keyboard and monitor. It's possible for an
external device to cause the boot to hang.

Hi Bill--

Nearly everyone who buys an OEM computer gets **no media at all** that tests
the hard drive, but there are usually key combos like Del''s so called
"90-90" ctrl+alt+d" at restart/turn on of the pc, or programs on line that
will test this with accuracy that isn't perfect--somewhere in the range of
75% to 95%, and there are universal programs like Seagate tools for
download to test hard drives.

I'm interested though, what magic set of symptom criteria enables you to
guess that the original poster's problems are "hard drive" since software
problems, including those with the boot loader cause the exact problem with
the exact symptoms day in and day out.

Best,

CH
